There's a really nice 65 Chevy short bed with a 454. The owner is a real nice kid, about 22 or so and him and his dad did all their own work on the truck. Anyway, the two of us keep going back and forth on the peoples choice award. He beats me out by a handfull of votes one show then I get it the next one by a few. He took it this last show. They're building a 55 Chevy truck right now. I want to get going on the 35 Dodge Brothers and start tappin into some of the other awards like best interior, best paint, etc. I suggested a Best Chick Magnet Award but nobody takes it serious.
The thing I'm getting bored with is the number of times the Carryall and even the 56 FF are called Willeys. "Look over here Marg, here we got a couple of ol willeys, em are a dime o dozen." Got Dodge all over the two of em and still can't get it right.
On the other hand, I had one old timer, I'd guess him to be about 85 come up to the Carryall with his walker and start telling me a story of driving one during construction of the Alcan highway. He remembers one of the Carryalls breaking the frame on the right side and having to do a crappy field weld in the mud. I helped him down to his knees and showed him his weld. It was pretty cool, we talked for awhile after that. Damn small world sometimes.
