A little help please. I have a 66 W200 with a 74 318
(I know, crappy smog engine), Carter 1¼ BBD and the factory
360 exhaust manifolds. On long hard pulls, the right side (only) exhaust manifold
manifold glows orange from heat. It also burns out gaskets (DUH!)
We have pulled the inner fender on that side to let out some
of the heat but that is obviously not a cure.
What would cause this one side to run that hot?
Next Question (if I may be so bold). I have a BB flywheel from a
361 of about 1970 vintage (forged crank?). How can I tell it from
the later cast crank flywheel? Anybody know the part numbers?
I am planning a 440 4-spd swap in lieu of the wheezy 318 and need
to confirm the application and/or trade for the later cast crank
flywheel. Any takers?
