I have started running older engine on synthetic oil and have not had any leakage problems. BUT, I have found out that when you start running and engine on synthetic, you need to keep it synthetic, otherwise it will leak when you switch back to regular oil. Some say you can 'wean' an engine off synthetic, but I have not tried it. Dont plan to either. I have had very good luck with the synthetic I have ran.
