Paul it does not lower the gear ratio any but adds so when engauged it drops my RPMs 25% in 3rd or any gear I shift it into. Still pretty low in Low Range 4X4, 1st gear and 1 to 1 Over drive having the 5.38 gears. I wanted it more for top end speeds at 60 mph I am only doing 3500 rpms not in overdrive, shift to overdrive same RPMs I can do 80 mph. Otherwords in OD I only do 2,600 rpms instead of 3500 rpms to go 60 mph. I can also drop or raise 25% in any other gear with it because it works in all gears. Great for matching gears on hills for the best ratio. My Transfer Case is Low 2.43 to 1 & High is 1 to 1 and the Overdrive High is .75 to 1 & low 1 to 1 so it allows a lot of differnt combinations in Gears. Mark H.
