They are upgrading to 20" tires and wheels, hence the latest auction of 16's on rims. I don't know (see - I CAN say that) any particulars on the new tires as to mfg, but I do know that Michelin owns plants here in the US- they bought BF Goodrich's tire division. So, even if Michelin has the new contract, the tires may be made here instead of in France with it's expensive labor costs.

I follow the So Cal. government auctions, and have not seen any large lots of LAV tires. I kinda figure that some one is digging them out of the 'scrap' tires that USMC must discard- they probably put new tires on lots of LAV's before sending them to Iraq. My question re: auctions is "who decides what is scrap, what gets reused, and what gets auctioned as 'worn but servicable'? I have lately heard that GL (government auction monoploy) got the new scrap contract too. I wish I could get in on some "recycling"....
