Hey, I've posted here before. It's been a while. But I've got a 76 Dodge PW, with a 400 v8 and a 4 speed standard tranny. The starter is making a really odd noise. I drove it to work this morn, and no problems. Came out, it wouldn't fire. But it made a nasty whining noise, coming from the starter. Not like it was chewing off teeth, and not like the batt was dead. But like it couldn't engage properly maybe the brushes in the motor are worn and it couldn't send the drive gear out far enough?? (it's got about 85,000 miles) on the starter, probly time for a new one. Any suggestions? I'm at home the truck is at work! THX, Book says starter is bad, but the book hasn't always been 100% in the past and I ended up wasting money on parts I didn't need. Possibly a loose ground, or 12v lead?
