I think Asche in Pennsy was charging $2500 last year for stock rebuilds. I'm sure extra machine work/parts can push it up past $3000.

Right now, I'm into it for $600 at the machine shop (bore 030, turn rods and mains, mill head, valve job and resurface flywheel) and another $1200+ in parts (pistons/rings, rods, bearings, gaskets, cam chain/gears, valve springs, valve guides, cam, damper, water pump, freeze plugs, paint).

This is not including the induction/exhaust, ignition or starting/charging elements

And that was looking for (and finding) bargains, albiet on an engine that needed a lot of work. And doing all the cleaning / assembly labor myself.
