I have got 10 Nos ones at my house that are origional and under the origional paint all are Galvanized. The 53 I had that had origional paint under the ODOT paint now in John Dunns Posetion had Galvanized rings and my 46 had two origional wheels own it and the rings were galvanized. I also have a 101 trailer and the wheels on it were galvanized. I dont wont to sound argumenitive or a know it all but I have never seen a Cadium plated wheel safety lock ring unless it was done by the current owner. My experance leads me to believe that the lock rings were galvanized to prevent rust and painted because it looked better. Cadium plated parts (bolts) I have seen on military vehicles but the Govt standards surley were higher therefore they would obsorb more cost. The civilian trucks do not appear to have the same standards applied to them an example being the lack of an oil filter on the early power wagons being standard equipment wiring harnesses ,etc.. This is an interesting topic and I would like to see some other opinions by people on this forum and you may be correct Dave. Have a good weekend.
