Hi Mike,

I went through the very same problems trying to source out the oil filter when I first got my 1955 M43CDN.

The filter housing is stamped “Military Standard Filter”; the auto parts counter people at “Crappy Pneu” would just “duhhhh...” me to no end.

Brought the old filter in, but still the blank look.
Tried using some parts numbers from various web sites, but the “first” NAPA/UAP place I went to told me that, “Those are U.S. part numbers. Canadian part numbers are different, eh?”

Finally went to a heavy truck parts place; they could match up a similar filter, but not the gasket: it was always too small.
So for years I was carefully preserving the old filter gasket.

Finally, in a casual conversation with another M37 owner, I mentioned the situation, and he gives me a spare oil filter in the box.

It’s the correct type filter (metal canister type studded with holes, and a lifting tang), and the gasket fits just perfectly.

It’s a WIX 51006.

You can pick ‘em up at any UAP/NAPA store in Canada.
Price (with taxes included) should just be around $15.00.
