Since you link warranty to quality, what is the warranty on the items you sell on e-bay? Does top quality = 10 years? 20 years? more?

I have dozens of things in my Museum that have outlasted the original warranties a hundred times over.

In the fifties, new cars came with 30 - 90 day warranties and mileages to match. This was the industry standard. The maintenance schedules called for 1000 mile chassis lubes and 2000 mile oil changes. The way to long vehicle life was high maintenance. When was the last time you saw the guy who lubricated your car or truck have a grease stick in his hand to do the door latches?

My '89 CTD had a 7 year/100,000 mile engine warranty. It was still under warranty when I sold it in 1994.

My 2001 CTD had a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on everything. They only did that for one year. I bought an extended warranty and got back well over a third of its cost when I traded the 2001 in.

My new POWER WAGON has a 7/70,000 on the drive line. The electric lockers alone would justify buying an extended warranty, but every extended warranty I've ever had paid for itself dealing with electric gadgets that I can reach from the driver's seat. The same goes for my wife's Caravan and Dakota.

I did have the Ohio body rust out warranty on my cars when I lived there. The fine print said, "Move to Texas." I did. No rust ever since. What a great warranty!
