Dad is using my voltage drops (Voltage Reducers) for an old 6-volt musical horn on his new truck. As Tom said, they look like a heater switch without the knob. About as big around as a half dollar. Here is an image of an older one. It is bigger than a radiator cap. The older ones had a terminal for the supply wire from the battery and three more terminals, one for 2.5 amp "trailer", one for 5 amp "radio", and one for 8 amp "accessory". The newer ones have only two terminals and need to be wired in series or parallel depending upon the expected amp draw. Here is a quick rundown on the instructions included with the units so you can determine if these will work for your application before ordering parts:

"Reduces 12 volts to 6 volts. To install:
1) Check amp. rating of accessory to be installed. You must have this information before installing accessory.
2) Select the diagram which matches the amp. rating fo accessory. Damage to the reducer and/or accessory will result if wrong diagram is used.
3) Connect one or more voltage reducers in series or parallel as shown in diagram.
Important note - voltage reducer is designed for 1.5 OHMS resistance at 4 amp. maximum load. Overloading will damage reducer and/or accessory."

"1 amp load - 4 units wired in series
1.3 amp load - 3 units wired in series
2 amp load - 2 units wired in series
4 amp load - 1 unit wired in series
8 amp load - 2 units wired in parallel
12 amp load - 3 units wired in parallel"
