If I had 20 trucks to work on and no history on the one I wanted to verify then I would take 20 mins and pull the head and make sure the cyl walls were free of rust before doing anything.
Advice abounds but no one sure fire way, what ever you like or have access to, re: diet coke (no sugar), brake fluid, PB blaster, Kroil, Marvel Mystery Oil, etc. Pull the side covers off and douse the valve springs and down through the open valves.
I would either put the trans in 1st or rev and try to push/rock the vehicle forwards and backward by hand or pry on the flywheel teeth. I would not try to pull it with another vehicle, great way to really screw it up. Good luck and be patient.
