Anyone Ever Narrow A Seat?

In my quest for a seat for my '57 FFPW, I've found a good usable seat bottom & back in a '51 2 ton Dodge truck cab. The shape & configuration looks like a match for the FFPW, but about 4 inches to wide on the overall width. Been thinking about picking it up and narrowing it. Any pitfalls I'm not seeing?
