I found this trick in a old military manual I have, forget if its a WC manual or M-37, makes no difference. Used it quite a few times, always works well.
Make up an adapter to go from the lower radiator port to garden hose with a T fitting that you can hook shop air on thru a push button valve. Fill the radiator right to the top, with the hose still running, give her a good shot of air. The hydraulic action will blow out all kinds of crud. Since the cap is not on the radiator your not overpressuriing it. If your do create a leak, be thankful, it was going to let go soon anyway.
I have had equal as good results doing this on a block. Cover anything you dont want wet, including yourself. When you hit the air, the water comes out straight up at least 12 feet.
