Sound like your starwheel inside the latch is toasted. Hold the dooor handle wide open and look at the starwheel as you spin it to see if any of the star wheel point are broken or have groove as this causes the door to not close when the broken one hits the striker first. If star wheel in latch checks out, check striker for wear as these two things cause most door problems. Then check the hinges for play next.
