This past week, I was doing some preventative maint on my Carryall. I pulled the front axles. You can see in the picture the Bird Nest some people mention has not happened. This joint is well lubed. Picture is exactly as it came out.

When I do my knuckles, I hand pack the joint really sloppy full. Then I hand pack the knuckle, leaving the center open so when I slide the axle in it does not push grease into the axle tube. After inserting the axle, I hand pack grease in the joint as full as I can with my fingers. Its never a compacted grease filling there is a tad of free space in the front of the knuckle by the spindle. Thus there is no room for a Bird Nest effect to take place, the joint is always lubed.

The joint in the picture has about 200 miles with hubs locked 4x4 and about 1200 miles with hubs unlocked. There are many ideas on Knuckle Lubrication. This is how I have done it on my Bumblebee, Carryall and M-37, it works well for me and is never so full it builds pressure and pushes out past the felt seal in the rear of the knuckle
