You will not need a shunt. The ammeter is wired in series with the output of the charging unit (Alternator) and needs no shunt. I would got to the auto supply house and get a fuse link (Looks like a piece of wire) and use that instead of a fuse. That way you will not have to worry about the delay characteristics of the fuse. Besides, if the fuse blows from a momentary short or overload, the alternator could self destruct if it is not load dump protected (a design characteristic). Hope this helps.
