During WW2 GMC / Chevrolet built around 800,000 4x4 and 6x6 trucks, Studebaker,around 200,000. Studebaker's open cab was even copied by GMC at the government's demand. Both companies were very inovative in design.
It's hard to believe neither one,or both didn't jump right in with Dodge right after the war and compete building 4x4 pickup trucks. They could have used a lot of their war tooling. Brain dead in the boardroom, I guess.
