Tanks Aaron, your reply makes a lot of sense. I've seen a 'Brownie' box installed ahead of the transfer case on a 4X4 IHC 1-ton to enable it to run 15% overdrive, straight through or 15% underdrive in either 2X4 or 4X4. Coupled with the 2-speed transfer case, that gives a lot of forward (and reverse) gears.
I wonder if a ring and pinion set for the front differential could be found to match the low range of a 2-speed rear differential to give a road gear by using taller tires?
