They will not convert the 2 speed rear end trucks to 4wd.

I am not sure if this is to prevent problems with people forgeting to be in the right gear, or because the gear ratios do not match.

A 1960 W500 uses the same rear axle as a D700, a Timken H141 with a 6.88 to 1 gear ratio.

There are a bunch of 2 speed rear ends in 1960, but the gear ratios are all over the place, 5.83/8.11, 7.166/9.775, etc, the closest to the 6.88 is a 6.65/8.52, and that would not help with road speed any.

A KC900 uses a 4.76/6.10, which would be great if that second number was .78 higher.

Anyway, given all the weird gear ratios used on the 2 speed rear ends, and the chance of someone blowing up the truck do to forgetting to shift the rear end, I can see why Coleman would not convert them.

Eric
