remember the military VC front axle was pretty much the same, but a little lighter, and it did have the same bearings top and bottom, before the top one went to a bushing on the half ton WC.
The VC manuals say to remove shims antil it rurns freely but with no play, then to remove another 5 thou from the shim pile.
It doesn't actually give a load figure though.
