In fact it wasn't welded to the case,
should add that it is a 49' FFPW and the screw is located on the driverside of the rear pumpkin, screw had approx 5/8" fine thread and was ~ 3" long with a slotted head. the other end has a shoulder about 3/8" x 3/7" long.
I can't figure what it would be used for.
