Alabama and New York have no title laws
Get someone from Alabama or New York to write you out a bill of sale
That is all you need.
Pose the question to your state titling office
"I am buying a truck from a guy from Alabama, he will deliver it on vacation when he passes thru, he said he can write me out a bill of sale. Is that all I need?"

all the title shops do is have you give them your hard earned $150, you in effect sell them the vehicle on paper, you write them out a bill of sale and they (might) keep it on file. They don't generate any official paper. Then, they write you out a bill of sale. Then you get the vehicle inspected and take the inspection and the B-of-Sale to the licensing body.
Think about it . .a rip off, you do not need them. Good luck
