well, I open the drain plug and let out a quart or so of the oil to see the condition.

NO burnt smell, no steel metal particles, no broken teeth or contamination of any kind. in fact, the oil looked 100% new the way I put it in weeks ago.

All i seen in the oil was a SMALL minute amount of very, very fine bronze coloring. not even big enough to pick up, just fine particales, and not even much of it.

What do yuo all think? Does it sound OK to you?

to me, it apperas normal. I guess that these truck just have hot rear ends! (Oh boy...)

In any case, I replaced the drained off quart with a quart of slick 50 gear oil. Ill see what ha[ppens from here.

I truley think it must be because its a new unit, all tight and fresh. Once it "looses" up and breaks in it should be fine. I drain and replace all of the gear oil in a few hundred miles.

Thanls all for the input!!!
