Just installed the Pertronix Ignitor electronic ignition in my 1946 WDX. Used Ignitor # 1564 for my IAY - 4003 distributor.

Installation was very easy, took less than an hour and everything fit perfectly. Truck seemed to start much easier, idled smoother. Used to have to keep my foot on the gas for a couple minutes till it warmed up but now just can start it and walk away.

Installation:
Took a screw driver and scratched a mark on the distributor and block so I could remove and reinstall the distributor and have the timing remain close to correct.

Popped the distributor cap and noted the location of the rotor. (think of a clock and note which way the rotor is pointed)

Remove the distributor from the truck.

Remove the (2) screws that hold the points mounting plate, and the nuts that hold the wire onto the coil.

Pull out the old mounting plate that holds the points and condenser.

Check the operation of the springs and weights on the mechanical timing advance under the mounting plate. I oiled the weights, and pivot pin and made sure they worked freely.

Install the new Pertronix mounting plate with the igniter. Pull the wires thru the hole in the side of the distributor until the rubber grommet supplied by Pertronix is in the hole in the distributor.

Pull the slack wire thru the grommet until the wire is tight enough it will never rub on the rotating part of the distributor.

Install the Pertronix magnet onto the distributor shaft. It just pushes into place. Install the rotor.

Reinstall the distributor.

Connect the red wire to the positive side of the coil. Connect the black wire to the negative side of the coil.

Start the truck and check the timing.

I purchased the Ignitor from the Eastwood Company www.Eastwood.com 800-345-1178.

Cost was $134.56.
