The short mirror arms worked well on the left side, but do not stick out far enough to see past my spare tire mounted in the normal spot. The longer arms allow me to be able to use the right mirror and not just see the tire.
However, the short arms are stronger and vibrate less. Coming home from the Iowa Rally in 2001, the wind whipping the longer mirror arms actually made the right one fail and crack right at the hinge mount where they flatten out. I put a new arm on with a large washer each side of the mount and have not had another problem.
