The door latches, the things that hold the door shut, changed in a major way, so the door jamb is a little different, as is the door skin.
You can make one into the other but it will take some work.
You are right in that the door will bolt in place, and fit the opening, but that is not much use if you can not latch it.
I do not have a picture of this to show you, but trust me, there is a difference.
Anyone got a shot of the door latch and striker on a 67-68 WM300? It might be as early as 1966. Spence??
