Yes, I own the manuals... and as you see above, they have just a few lines to say about breaking down the wheels. And those instructions didn't take into account 60 years of rust. I tried it per the manual an it didn't work.
You're right about the bead-lock... I was just supprised that the thing actually hadn't been broken down and removed at some point in the last 40 years or so.
I don't think I did anything un-safe... the Saws-All option was controlled, as was the chisel and hammer to cut the wire bead.
But I'm open to better ideas... that part of why I post my experiance. But, saying to just follow the manual doesn't help in this case. That ring wasn't leaving the wheel with manual tire bars. At least not under my attempts. Perhaps an experianced tire guy with a bigger bar/hammer would have had better luck.
