I have a 79 powerwagon 4x4 and I was going to put a 440 in it but changed my mind after I researched the pros and cons of a 440. Here's what I found out, first you will need the motor mount brackets for a 440 then if your truck does not have a body lift you will need a small power brake booster to clear the left side rocker armcover also cooling comes into play, 3or4 core radiator or electric fan then you will need the truck oil pan and oil pickup for a 4x4. Next is the trans you will need a big block trans either one that has came out of a 4x4 if you do not have a big block trans you will need one and if it is out of a car you will need to change the output shaft to a shorter one that fits a 4x4, still wanting to go with a big block????? I opted for a 360, I have one now that I am taking to the machine shop this Fri. The 360 is a direct drop in the only thing you will need is the truck 4x4 oil pan and p/u. I priced all the stuff mentioned for a 440 swap and it was getting rather expensive so I sold the 440 and got a good 78 360 motor out of a van and am going to retire the 318 thats in the truck now and put it in. If I can be of more help let me know and good luck. Ron My Email adress is RTaylor@MSN.com
