77 PowerWagon Question

I don't immediately have a picture for what I'm going to ask but can get one this afternoon...This has been puzzling me for a bit now...

I have a 77 PowerWagon (not sure which version as I understand there were several). My question is that in the bed of this particular truck on the drivers side wheel well, there is some type of plug. I've never seen this before. I'm trying to find out if this is a stock item or if this was something added way back when by a previous owner. To me it appears that it came with the truck (its that old).

So...without actually seeing a picture...does this sound remotely familiar to anyone?
