Alternator Wiring Help??

I may have crossed up the wires on my alternator when I had the engine out of the Diesel M37 or I may have just shorted out a wire. I thought that everything was working fine, but before I took it apart the last time one of the three wires from the alternator caught on fire and nearly burned the truck up. Luckily I was quick and the wire was the only damage. Noe I am leary to hook it up the way it was wired for fear I have the wires switched. The wire that is missing from the picture is the one that burned up. It was attached to "2" and to the hot side of the fuse block. Can some one help me with the proper wiring of this alternator. I have no idea what it was sourced from...
