There are tons of forklift places around both the Bay Area and Sac. Personally, what I would do is go to a bigger Equipment leasing/Rental yard like a Cresco, United Rentals, River City or whatever and buy one of their used ones.
Bigger equipment rental places always turn their equipment over so they don't have to deal with the high cost maintenance of rental equipment. Its often worthwhile to buy it, go through the unit replacing hoses, ect, and end up with a good unit.
