Tom, Taking your GPS for a ride sounds like a good idea. Unless you have had your truck for many years or have had work done on the third members, who knows, maybe someone in the past installed 4.89 R&P gear sets into it and never put in a ratio adapter for the speedometer. That's where I'm at currently with my truck, I have replaced the 5.83's with 4.89's and haven't gotten a ratio adapter yet so that my speedo reads right. Right now when my speedometer is showing 30mph, I'm estimating that I'm really doing around 40mph.
