There is a wire missing in the diagram. The Compressor has an electric clutch, which determines if the compressor runs or does not when the engine is running. The Battery supplies power to the relay which is activated by the presure switch and the override switch in the cab. The output of the relay (wire missing) goes to the compressor electric clutch to engage the compressor. The article talks about the electric clutch but does not show the wire. In operation, the override switch in the cab, activates the entire system, then if the tank presure is below the low set, the clutch engages and the pump starts compressing air. When the high set is satisfied, the presure switch opens and the electric clutch on the compressor is deactivated. The switch in the cab is just a master to control off/on of the operation. Thats my best shot on a cold morning waiting to the Nor'Easter.
