Another stupid electrical question.

I got my 1/2 ton carryall engine unstuck and i am now ready to start it. I accidently reversed the polarity on the battery. My question is, with reverse polarity, I would think the starter motor would turn the engine in the opposit direction but it turns the correct direction regardless of polarity?
