Thanks, I would love to do that with it, but I read everything you wrote about getting your rig approved, and I don't think I could ever do it with this one. As I recall, you had to go 60 mph, had to have lots of modern lights, and could not have any oil leaks at all. I would have to change every seal in the truck to eliminate leaks, and at present it will only go about 30 mph empty. The exhaust system is also shot, but that I will get replaced no matter what. The tank is a 3-compartment 1000 gallon fuel tank with holes cut through the baffles so it works as one tank. It's extremely rusty inside. Do they also check for the rustiness of your tank when they approve you?

The Hale fire pump does work excellent, and I've re-done most of the plumbing. It has 2 big hose reels, and provision for sucking from a pond. The good thing is it was stored indoors up until the last 5 years or so, so the body is excellent. I cut the standing platform off the back end because it drags on the ground too easily.

I have have heard good and bad about that very early Allison Cadillac GM tranny, most of it bad, so I'm thinking that's probably why it won't go fast. It seems to slip a lot. I have to rev it up quite a bit just to get it to move on level ground. I wish I could put a manual tranny in, but from everything I've heard, there's no easy conversion. The 302 engine starts easy and sounds like it's strong. It still has the military electrical system.

I got it just to protect my place, especially since there's a FS road through it and public campgrounds above and below. I figure it will also be handy to have standing by when I burn slash.
