I also have one. The Navy needed new ambulances and of course the WWII production was long past and the M43 was not in production yet or all promised to the army or air force for Korea where they were still using second hand WWII WC units. 281 Power Wagons were supplied to the Gerstenslager Body Co. for Navy ambulances. The M615 ambulances which were similar and produced later were produced by the Mark Body Co. *This information taken from "The Production Story" by John Zentmyer 1987
