I am re/posting this because it can happen to these typs of rims. I did a search and the type of crack I had was because the lugs were loose not over loaded. I am 3,000 lbs under loaded on this axle full of water and the tank is baffled with 8 chambers for no slosh and the load is ballance for proper load percentage on both axles leaving 2,800 lbs under loaded on the front axle. These cracks probley happened from the owner befor cause the rims were never removed till I put new tires on and the new ones have about 12 miles on them.
Was cleaning the brake parts today on the Tender and was looking close at the rims back side thinking of cleaning them too. Found a 10" plus long crack in each rim on the same side! The rims were just getting ready to cut loose at any time. You could not see the crack from the outside yet but they were about 1/8" deep. Scared the crap out of me thinking what could of happen if I lost a set of duals with a load of water in the mountains. Sure glad I did the brake job. Pissed off at the Tire Guy for not catching them when he mounted the new tires!! Mark H.
