Hi Brett,
I think thats pretty common for Hollywood. My father was commanded a truck company in Europe during WW2. At one point they came upon an abandoned but intact German Kubelwagen (like a VW Thing) He gave up his Jeep and rode around in that for awhile until the MPs took it away from him! He had some good stories...
