First off, Thanks for the info guy`s,much appreciated.
After much running (and ringing around) it seems that the LA will be the way to go for the 1 tonner project.
Being on the other side of the world Poly`s are not common
and neither are the parts, can get them but at much inflated prices.LA stuff is easily available and reasonable priced, relatively speaking.Still costs much more than GM or Ford.
The other reason for the LA is I will build it to run on LPG.(Liquid Petroleum Gas) I do`nt know if you guy`s see much of it over there but it`s become popular over here.Cost per mile to run will be about the same as the 4.2 diesel this engine will replace. With a bit more power.
To answer your question Reg I do`nt have the one tonner yet,all of this is still in the planning stage.A good body is hard to get,and I am still trying to sort out the engineering side with local Traffic Authorities.
The end result will probably be ,1950`s OZ Dodge pilot house cab with LA318 engine, all fitted to late 90`s 4x4 Nissan Patrol 1 ton chassis, using the Nissan 5 speed OD gearbox/transfer case and diffs complete with 4 wheel disc brakes.
I know some of you will be shacking your heads at the mention of Nissan, but in my defense Dodge have not made a truck nor imported one since 1979 so there is not a lot of late model gear over here .What is available is expensive and replacement parts have to be imported .Where as Nissan here are off the shelf at any parts supplier .
The other big plus is the Nissan drive line is bullet proof, leaves Toyota stuff for dead and, hate to say it feller`s it is on a par with most of the US gear.
Anyway that`s enough day dreaming, I have to go and look at how I am going to fit the Poly 318 to an other project I have.
Regards
Tony
