I'm biased towards the Poly. The Poly was an offshoot of the Hemi, forged crank, better breathing, more torque, more bullet proof than the LA.
The Poly and LA block are basically the same, the difference is in the heads and various components, which are lighter duty in the LA. Poly parts are harder to find, but available at several sources. LA parts are very common and easy to get. The LA has hydraulic lifters, the Poly, except for the series 3 motor has mechanical (solid) lifters. The Poly has more potential for performance. The Poly and the LA will last longer if you install exhaust valve seats, unless your LA is an later LA that will run on unleaded fuel. The Poly will give you more power and economy with a classic look, the LA is mundane, but easy to care for. The LA is a good motor, just not as good as the Poly. The Poly was the original "A" block, the "LA" stands for Light A, there is about 50 lbs difference in weight, most of it in the heads.
