when the flex plate flexs the torque converter moves in and out of the crank. with the torque we makes it flexed enough to stick in the back of the crank. then every time the flex plate would flex it wouldnt and would put pressure on the thrust bearing . on a big block it is between the number3 and 4 & 5 and 6 rod bearing. I was told by my tranny guy that if a converter balloons it would explode. this is a misconception for the flex plate moving, which in our instance is about 3/8 of an inch. we put neversieze on crank and all was good
