Engine condition

While cleaning out the front sump oil pan off of my donor engine I found a LOT of metal shavings collected in the sludge. So while pulling the oil pump out so I could install the rear sump pan for motor fitting trials, I noticed that the crank was biased forward (likely do to thrust bearing failure), and some scraping damage to the back of one of the caps, and on some of the cranks counter weights.

I'm going to re-build the engine but should I be concerned or not this damage?

Also I noticed most of the rods, etc... have a brownish cast, is this normal?

Thanks,
Will
