The Hemi is a great motor, but developes it torque at a much higher rpm than a diesel. Therefore it is not as stout for towing and fuel economy suffers.
Because of emmission regulations, the modern high output gas motors must run higher rpms to be compatible with the way the emission control systems function. The only way that high horsepower can co-exist with low emissions and gasoline using the present systems is to give up the bottom end.
