I spent several hours researching and preparing an answer to his 1/2 ton transmission questions. (See PWA - WWII Forum, Thread entitled, "did the 1/2 ton WC trucks have two different trannys?" posted 12-19-2004 08:48 PM)

My response provided the part numbers for the two transmission assemblies and the respective two transmission cases used in the 1/2 ton military trucks - with, and without winches.

Maybe dallasdave from Plano will pass on these part numbers so you can compare them to the frozen transmission.

We have a Dodge, WD-15, 3/4 ton, 2WD, pickup - exact year not known. They were built from '39 to '47. It has a 4 speed, direct in 4th transmission that appears to be the same as at least one of the several 4 speed transmissions used in the 1/2 ton military 4x4's. I walked up and inspected it. I found the transmission has a single PTO opening on the right side. The Gear Shift Lever Housing does not look like the one on the military transmission, however. It is crowned so the gear shift rails are not visible. From all exterior appearances, they are interchangeable. I do not have a parts list for the civilian transmission but the fact that most internal parts on all the military transmissions are the same - plus the fact that the early half tons were only slightly modified from the civilian trucks - supports my belief they are interchangeable.

By the same reasoning, it is equally likely that early post war trucks may have come with transmissions from the WWII military trucks.

Good luck. I hope this helps.
