Auto trannies should never be installed in vintage Dodge trucks for the following reasons:
1) it is against the "rules",
2) if you do go with an auto, it is a firm rule that it must be a Dodge unit lest you violate the sanctity of brand loyalty, and confuse onlookers regarding the picture in your back cab window of the kid peeing on brand X.
3) all of the he-men with their stick shift trucks will think you are a girle-man, no matter how big of tires you put on it.
Now, when I put the TH400 behind the big block in my M37, no firewall mods were needed, although major surgery was required on the trans hump/tunnel due to the location of the shifter as well as the t-case levers having to be moved over. Don't know if this would apply to the WC. I can't remember if the 1/2 ton WC used the centered rear axle, but if it did, I would use a married t-case both because it would be better and easier.
