V-8 auto swap

I've read many articles on here about V-8 swaps using later model 4 speed truck transmissions. Has anyone done one using an auto trans? If so what type, (oops here goes) brand, requires the least amount of fire-wall, floor-board modification? I understand about the distance between the end of the tranny and to the transfer case. Would the easiest way to go, be to install an auto with a married transfer case? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, The truck is a '41 1/2 ton WC. Thank You
