Is this 6 cyl 6 volt pos ground tachometer with a sending unit?
The sending units have a battery on the inside, used to be a mercury battery but you can just use a AA alkaline. I would also check out the inside of the sending unit to make sure there is no corrosion from a bad battery etc.
If this is 6 cyl 6 volt pos ground, I would suggest you leave it this way. These are hard to find but 12 volt neg ground sending units are readily available on ebay. The tach heads are the same but again, those with lower rpm scales like 0-5000 are much harder to find than those with 0-8000 etc .
