Bridge plates are a system of marking M-series military vehicles with the weight of the vehicle so that Military Police and other traffic controllers can determine if a particular vehicle is too heavy to pass over a bridge.
They are comprised of a metal bracket, with a very clever spring-loaded latching thingie to hold interchangeable numeral placards.
