There is a gap between the drum and the housing that the brake pad mounts to(on Housing)It is a thin pad about 3/8 inch and it just rubs against the side of the drum. The drum flares out on the outside edge so it is recessed where the brake pad is and so does the housing near the center of it. Mark H.
